The Challenge
Filming and photography environments require absolute consistency in lighting. Any flicker, even if invisible to the eye can appear on camera and undermine the quality and outcome videos and photos.
The challenge was to create a lighting solution that delivered complete flicker-free performance that would appear on camera perfectly, displaying accurate colour representation, producing professional quality images, while remaining flexible to support different creative requirements.
The Solution
We designed and delivered a Tunable white lighting control system, offering flexibility and effortless control of the lighting scenes. A tunable white LED lighting system enables the user to control a light source’s colour temperature output and intensity independently.
Using DALI Type 8 (DT8) dimming control, allows users client to select the desired colour of white between the colour temperatures 2700K and 6500K. Studio staff can alter the colour of light from cool white to neutral white, to warm white, with smooth dimming, to create different moods and atmospheres for various creative requirements – all through simple wall mounted keypads or App control.
Lighting is flicker-free and provides smooth dimming, allows clients to achieve stunning results.
Creating a unique blend of light and colour
This bespoke lighting solution supports the Circadian rhythm, allowing the lighting to mimic and complement the natural light cycle. This enhances productivity and provides a comfortable environment. Having the ability to tune the lights according to the needs of the space has a definite impact on productivity because of our circadian rhythm.
Light fixtures can also be controlled independently to create a warmer ambience over the kitchen area, and a brighter atmosphere over the preparation area where re-touching and styling takes place. Flexibility in lighting controls complements the changing requirements of the space, allowing staff to host various event types through the day.
Effortlessly adjust colour temperature to match ample natural daylight
From soft-diffused lighting for elegant portraits, to dramatic high contrast set ups for artistic shots, the lighting design ensures consistent high-quality illumination is provided. Programmable lighting scenes were defined to ensure uninterrupted lighting shifts are made, specifically during video shoots, where uniform illumination is crucial for professional results. Managing light over time aims to enhance ambience and functionality, creating dynamic lighting effects with emotional and functional impact.
Setting the scene with ambient light
The lighting design is highly adaptable and easily controlled via wall-mounted keypads and an App allowing customers to turn up and shoot without the needs for additional equipment. Using App control ensures the lighting scenes can be determined by studio staff to meet diverse creative needs, offering easy control over the intensity and colour temperature of individual luminaires. These settings can be saved as pre-set “Event Scenes” for easy recall by staff or customers. “Daily Scenes” are fixed settings perfect for general photoshoots and day-to-day requirements.
Designed for the hair and beauty industry, this photography studio can offer a wide range of uses including photoshoot spaces, event, conferences parties, content creation and hosting, expanding their creative outlets within the industry.
